In 1998 1st Durrington Scout Group was granted a 99-year lease by Worthing Borough Council (now Adur & Worthing) on land at the former Upper Northbrook Farm on which stood a dilapidated Sussex Barn.
Northbrook Barn Community Centre was conceived and built as a self-build project by members of 1st Durrington Scout Group. The Sussex Barn was renovated as a hall and Scout HQ and the new Centre built along-side.
Generous funding was provided by The National Lottery Charities Board, Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex County Council, amongst others.
Initially the Barn and the new building were not joined so we are delighted that we were able subsequently to build a Link between the two in 2009. This gives greater security for all users and particularly the children, weather protection and building security.
A big thank you to those who helped with the funding of this project
